It all starts with listening, learning, and asking "Is it good for the children?" It is about new perspectives and collaboration.

Our community and its excellent schools are what make Decatur a great place to live. We need to embrace our charter's mandate to increase local school governance. We need to empower the parents and teachers who know our schools best to make them better.

We need leaders with a flexible long term vision. As a good steward of taxpayer dollars, I will not take money from programs and services to pay for construction. I will not transfer money from the general fund to pay for capital expenditures. I will support new construction projects for maintenance and renewal of facilities at a sustainable pace.

We need to leverage technology to increase transparency and openness. We need to survey our teachers, parents, and community on issues of significance. We need to engage the schools in the public blogs and Internet forums. We need to move the back rooms into the front lobbies. And we need to establish a liaison between the city commission and school board.

On November 3rd, get Garrett for District 1.
